VIEW MAP
The View Map is a critical part of an ArchiCAD project. Views define where and how you are looking at the project data. Each drawing on a layout sheet has a View definition. Other working Views are used to manipulate the building model or site, and while preparing renderings. A well-defined and organized View Map make the workflow fall into place much more easily. The hierarchy of Views allows large conceptual divisions to be seen easily. Each of these folders refers to a resource (reference documents) or a focus or phase of work.
 |
THE MAIN CATEGORIES
Here are the main categories opened up to the next level.
Notice how the naming conventions make it easy to understand what each folder contains.
The views are cleanly organized and well defined for all phases of project development. The hierarchy can be opened up selectively as needed.
There’s a place for everything, and everything in its place. All the settings have been worked out to make the drawings look great, as well as provide optimized environments for various design and documentation phases. |
WHAT ARE CLONE FOLDERS?
Many of the folders are “Clone Folders” which automatically include copies of all relevant entries from the Project Map. For example, the folder called “SECTIONS (CLONE)” will always have every Section drawn in the project with the correct Layer Combination and Model View Option. They make it easy to generate a good section drawing to place on a Layout.
The “FLOOR PLAN VIEWS (CLONE)” folder contains subfolders for all the common plan views, ready to go. In a multi-story building, the clone folders will automatically showentries for every type of View (Floor Plan, Reflected Ceiling Plan, Room Finish, MEP, Structural, etc.) – for every story – with no effort on your part!
THE BOTTOM LINE
All of this took a while for us to set up, but you won’t have to. It’s built into the ArchiCAD MasterTemplate!
Just for fun, here is a complete view of the ArchiCAD MasterTemplate View Map (and don’t worry – it’s all customizable):
